The Giant Lantern Caravan 2018 kicked-off over the weekend at Robinsons Galleria in Quezon City featuring CSF’s pride ‘Parul Sampernandu,’ giving a picturesque vibe of the Christmas season to the people in the metro.

The first leg of this year’s activity featured a show and a bazaar of San Fernando-made parols and other Giant Lantern Festival merchandise, including t-shirts, mugs, and ballers, at special discounted prices.

According to City Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan, the activity was launched three (3) years ago, through the collaborative efforts of the Giant Lantern Festival Foundation, Inc. and Robinsons Land Corporation, and has been staged to different Robinsons malls in Luzon, and for this year, will be staged in Cebu.

Arlene Magtibay of the Robinsons Land Corporation meanwhile expressed gratitude for the partnership between them and the city government for staging a cultural-friendly show.

“We are actually very happy and very grateful to the city for the trust and confidence in us. Giant Lantern Festival is something that everyone must see and we are glad that we belong in that mission in promoting our own culture and traditions,” expressed Magtibay.

Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin also graced the event, citing that “the City of San Fernando has built a solid reputation as one of the best cities in the country when it comes to culture preservation, including the lantern-making in the city.”

For his part, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago remarked that more than the exceptionality of the designs of San Fernando parols, it’s still the symbol of love and hope that makes them iconic.

“Our lanterns have been making waves in the local and international scene, because of the symbols they convey—love and hope to every Filipino during Christmas time,” Santiago remarked.

Meanwhile, the Giant Lantern Caravan is set to happen at Robinsons Galleria Cebu on October 27-28, Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City on November 3-4, and Robinsons Place Antipolo on November 10-11.
