PCDC officers take oath, vow to strengthen coops in municipal levels

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Recognizing that cooperatives play a vital role in improving economic opportunities that enhances the quality of life, the Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC) is now actively supporting the strengthening of all Municipal Cooperative Development Council (MCDC) to achieve this purpose.

    During the oath taking ceremony of the new set of officers of the PCDC at the Capitol Executive House here on Monday, Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda reminded MCDC offi cers to work fast as she enjoined them to implement their work plans on how to teach and form cooperatives that play a big role in manpower training.

    Pineda also acknowledged the role of 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, being a former president and an economist, in supporting MCDCs.

    “This is our last term and we want to leave a lasting legacy for the Kapampangans,” Pineda said.

    For her part, Arroyo told MCDC officers as well as the new set of officers of the PCDC to teach people how to form cooperatives in order to save and not just to borrow money.

    Arroyo said PCDC officers should not only organize and regulate cooperatives but also to help them form a financial work program that can be submitted to government line agencies for a sustainable livelihood.

    And this should be done by the middle of November, she added as she wished them good luck and success.

    Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCEDO) head Luningning Vergara and Public Employment Services Office (PESO) manager said they are moving to strengthen the PCDC and help in revitalizing all MCDCs through the issuance of a resolution in the province urging mayors to detail an MCDC officer or adopt a plantilla for them.

    She acknowledged MCDCs as front liners of coops in the countryside.

    PCDC chair, Provincial Board Member Anthony Joseph “Tonton” Torres, said October is the cooperative month and “we celebrate it by hopefully continuing the programs of the past PCDC offi cers and by strengthening the MCDCs.”

    The new PCDC officers that took their oath were Torres as chair, Cesar “JC” Marucut of the City Cooperative Development Council of Mabalacat City as vice chair, Arlene A. Bonifacio of MCDC Masantol as secretary, Gloria B. Hipolito of MCDC Candaba as treasurer, and Laila P. Tulabut of MCDC Lubao as auditor.
