City police director Senior Supt. Sydney Villaflor, reported to Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan that at around 8:30 p.m. while members of Police Station 6 were conducting “Anti Criminality Checkpoint” along the MacArthur Highway in Barangay Virgen Delos Remedios (VDR) here, a yellow Ford Mustang sped away when flagged down, going to the direction of the City of San Fernando.
Villaflor said policemen gave chase until the car was intercepted due to heavy traffic. Reports also said policemen shot the tires of the Mustang when it refused to stop.
When accosted, the driver of the speeding Mustang was identified as actor Mark Anthony Fernandez from No. 84 Don Rufi no St. Tahanan Village, Paranaque City. He was in possession of a pack of suspected marijuana weighing approximately one kilo, according to Villafl or.
The city police director also said policemen were already on the lookout for a yellow Ford Mustang model 1992 with plate no. ZGN-667 after getting a tip from a certain “Francis” of Barangay Ninoy Aquino.
Villaflor said Fernandez tested positive for THC Metabolites which is an active ingredient of marijuana after a field test was conducted by the city crime laboratory. But he said a “confirmatory test” will still be made in Manila.
Meanwhile, radio reports said Fernandez is claiming that he used the marijuana as treatment for his cancer. Fernandez is the son of the late actor Rudy Fernandez with actress turned politician Alma Moreno aka Vanessa Lacsamana whose father Frank is a Kapampangan from Macabebe.
Fernandez is currently detained at Station 6.
