Korean acupuncture, moxibustion expert now in Angeles City

    ANGELES CITY – A renowned Korean centenarian expert in Oriental medicine especially on acupuncture and moxibustion is coming here Wednesday (February 10).

    Nam-soo Kim a.k.a. Gudang (meaning Moxibustion House) will be at the city hall at 10 a.m. and later at 4 pm at the Hall of Justice here.

    Kim, who is now 101 years old, was a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) Gold Medal, given by US President Barack Obama on January 28, 2012 for helping to address the most pressing needs of the USA.

    “Thank you for your devotion to service and for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great nation,” Obama said of Kim.

    Kim appeared on the Korean Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) on acupuncture and moxibustion series, the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) on Chuseuok or Korean Thanksgiving Day specials on Gudang’s Accupuncture and Moxibustion story, the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), the O Broadcasting System (OBS), YTN on news programs, the Tianjin TV and Harbin TV in China and heard over Radio Korea 1540 AM Los Angeles, USA.

    In 1984, Kim or Gudang learned his skills from his father. He started volunteer moxibustion service with his Korean acupuncture, moxibustion expert now in Angeles City family and clinic workers and is now heading a nationwide service in Korea and with other volunteers who go through a one year education course and qualification test in acupuncture and moxibustion.

    In 2001, the first regional branch office was open in Busan to render the service for free. Until now, more than one million Koreans have been offered free acupuncture and moxibustion service at the regional clinics in Gwangju, Daegu and Jeonju.

    Gudang said his only wish is to see a day when everyone benefits from what his time-tested clinical skills can give in the field of acupuncture and moxibustion.
