The Binulu Festival is now on its 10th year and will be held on Monday (November 16) at the town center.
Mayor Carling De La Cruz, Vice Mayor Dexter David and his sister, former Pampanga Board Member Fritzie David-Dizon, will lead the celebration where hordes of local and foreign tourists are encouraged to join.
Councilor Mark Anthony Valencia, chairman of the committee on tourism, said during the media forum “Talk Widus” organized by the Pampanga Press Club at the Widus Hotel and Casino here on Wednesday, that the festival highlights the Aetas’ cooking of rice and viands such as fish, pork, chicken, and other seafood that are stuffed and cook together using a variety of bamboo called “bulu.”
The festival will start at 3 p.m. at the Jose Songco Lapid Sports Gym at the town center. He added that the municipality allotted P2 million for the festival which started in 2005.
“It’s a month-long celebration. It’s bigger and better. The mayor made sure that all sectors will join and benefit from the festival,” said Valencia, who was joined by Councilor Ronie Mercado at the forum.
Other events include a “Jobs Fair” held last on November 10 as well as special days for the youth and the elderly.
Valencia said there will also be street-dancing on Monday where Aetas and local folks wearing colorful and traditional costumes will perform.
“We noticed that not just local visitors but foreign visitors also grace the previous event and we are again inviting everybody on Monday,” said Valencia.
The festival committee includes Councilors Maynard Lapid, Rudy Enriquez, Hilario Dimalanta and Michelle Bengco and former councilor Ludivico Muli.
