BALANGA CITY — The provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office has distributed 3,000 packs of relief goods in flooded areas in Bataan, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) reported Thursday.
First recipients were from the towns of Morong, Pilar, Abucay, Hermosa and Orion while distribution in the rest of 11 towns and one city to follow.
Among the early beneficiaries of assorted goods were 200 evacuees from Balanga City, 157 from Pilar, 54 from Morong, 11 from Hermosa and 104 from Morong or a total of 526 individuals who were brought to respective evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Wednesday distributed 40 boxes of prophylaxis each to the towns of Orion, Limay, Mariveles, Samal, Abucay and Hermosa.
Aside from the medication for the dreaded leptospirosis, PHO gave drinking water and hygiene kits.
Bataan on Thursday experienced intermittent light to moderate rains, leaving 11 villages in four towns and one city still flooded.
Flooded were a barangay each in Pilar, Orion and Balanga City and four each in Hermosa and Dinalupihan.
JM Garcia of PIA said that flood waters were from onehalf foot to 2.5 feet.
The deepest was 2.5 feet in Barangay Almacen in Hermosa. Classes in all levels, both public and private, were suspended Thursday in the municipalities of Mariveles, Hermosa and Dinalupihan per directive of Mayors AJ Concepcion, Jopet Inton and Maria Angela Garcia.
Inton also cancelled work in the local government unit except those involved in disaster risk reduction and management.
