CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “Live the faith. Love the family.”

Thus San Fernando Archbishop Paciano B. Aniceto counselled Team PNoy senatorial candidate Edgardo “Sonny” Angara as he gave him his blessing during a courtesy call at the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary here over the weekend.

The prelate underscored the family as “the very definition of the Filipino character, the priceless treasure of our people (and therefore) considered at the core of every legislation.”

Happily married with three sons, Angara assured Aniceto of his opposition to the impending “divorce law” in congress, saying he would tend to go by the suggestion of some to study the Canon Law as regards the annulment of marriage.

This developed as leaders of the Catholic Church slammed the “promotion of a culture of death and promiscuity exacerbated by political and business leaders who follow the practices of the West.”

After the passage of the contraceptive bill more popularly known as the Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill) which was supported by no less than President Benigno Aquino, some lawmakers said the divorce bill will be next.

In a published report, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) noted the promotion of Western practices such as divorce “resulting in more break-up of families and the dysfunctional growth of children;” contraceptives, “leading to more abortions;” the use of condom, “aggravating HIV-AIDS infection;” and, school sex education, “bringing more promiscuity and teenage pregnancy.”

Aniceto reminded Angara of the importance of electing competent and morally upright candidates who are faithful to their correct and informed conscience.

Angara said he is not inclined to support the divorce bill and will remain vigilant against moves that will be destructive of family and life.

Aniceto also reminded Angara of how leaders should place Christ as the central figure in their lives.

Aniceto gave his Angara, who was accompanied by his cousin Genesis Transport Services, Inc. president Riza Moises, his blessings at the end of his visit.
