ANGELES CITY – Christmas songs sung by Kapampangan artists will soon be dominating the airwaves.

This came as the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) together with GMA Records launched on Saturday at the SM City Clark the first ever Christmas album interpreted by Kapampangan singers.

Dubbed as “Hiling Ngayong Pasko”, the album is a collection of nine original songs composed by Boron Garcia, director of the AUF Center for Culture and the Arts and conductor of the AUF Concert Chorus. It is now available in major music stores.

All songs were written and sung in English and Filipino in the tune of rock, comedy and sentimental by students, staff and alumni of the AUF.

Lawyer Joseph Emmanuel Angeles, president of the AUF, said it took them a year before launching the album.

He said that AUF have to gather Kapampangan talents who interpreted the songs and give a whole new meaning.

Angeles said that they endeavored to come up with a Christmas music album because they observed that most Christmas songs on the country today were mere “revival.”

“Mostly ay old songs, mga revival na lang yung Christmas songs natin ngayon, and somehow they no longer relate to the current generation and trends,” he said.

Angeles said that Filipinos are talented and can come up with new songs.

Of the nine songs, Angeles cited the “Paskong Para Sa Iyo” which is dedicated to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are spending Christmas away from their families.

He also noted “Diwa ng Pasko” which is dedicated to God.

For his part, Garcia expressed gratitude to GMA Records for the support in the production and the launch.

He said that it took them more than a month to complete the production of the nine songs.
Garcia also noted that people behind the album took it to their hearts and spent considerable amount of time, money and talents.

The album is now being played in different radio stations in Central Luzon and expected to dominate the airwaves as Christmas nears.
