BALANGA CITY — The National Food Authority provincial office here has again stopped supplying rice to retail outlets in the province, NFA rice retailers said Tuesday. Roel dela Rosa said the last delivery of NFA rice they received was Holy Tuesday.

“Limang sako lamang ito na naubos noong Biyernes Santo,” he said.

NFA rice containers in his store instead have commercial rice for P40 per kilo and “binlid” sold for P27 each kilo.

NFA rice is sold at P27 and P32 per kilo. On January 15, 2018, NFA stopped supplying rice to its accredited retailers in Bataan, saying its stock was reserved for calamities.

It resumed its delivery after a few weeks.

“May supply kami ng NFA rice sa loob ng isang buwan pero naubos na bago mag-Holy Week,” NFA rice retailer Milagros Villasenior said.

She said that NFA supplied them with rice procured from local farmers.

“Pero naubos na ito dahil hindi naman karamihan,” Villasenior said.

As to commercial rice, she said that the price increased to P2 a kilo.

“Sa halip na bumaba noong Mahal na Araw, tumaas pa dahil nag-aagawan ang mga traders sa inani,” she said.

The lowest price of commercial rice in her store, she said, was P42 a kilo.

NFA provincial manager Adelaida Nuestro was out in a conference and no one in the office could be interviewed.

But a source who requested not to be identified confirmed that their last delivery of NFA rice to their retailers was last Tuesday and that they can only resume supplying them again after the arrival of imported rice.

The source said they have disposed of their stock purchased from local farmers.
