Restituto Reyes, barangay chairman of Lamao here, said he will author in the sangguniang bayan an ordinance that will put to effect the desire of Mayor Lilvir Roque for a drugfree Lamao.
Reyes is president of the Association of Barangay Chairmen in Limay and ex-officio SB member.
The ordinance will tackle the aggressive campaign against the drug menace in the whole municipality but Lamao will serve as model being home to many transients.
Of its 23,000 population, 35 percent are transients.
Reyes described the drug problem in the village as still manageable.
In the issuance of barangay clearance, an applicant should present a clearance from his place of origin and must be in Lamao for not less than six months, the barangay chair said.
Lamao is home to many industrial firms like Petron that is undergoing a gigantic expansion program, including a coalfired power plant. In the village are the government arsenal and an explosive-manufacturing company.
It is also the place for the main offices of the Bataan stations of the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine Ports Authority and the Bureau of Customs.
It has its own public high school, an air-conditioned barangay hall and health center.
Crews of cargo ships come and go in the village.
