ABUCAY, Bataan- Here’s a bit of good news! Sons and daughters of a former bandmaster and retired member of the United States Navy acted as Good Samaritans for the elderly and children in Wawa, a fishing village in Abucay, Bataan.
They built a building each for the senior citizens and daycare children worth P3 million that was inaugurated Friday. The two centers rise on a 300-square meter lot adjacent to the barangay hall.
The municipal government owns the lot, part of the former Abucay public market that was transferred to a bigger site.
The donors mostly reside in the United States or are successful businessmen after working for years in the foreign country.
“Maging halimbawa sana sa ating mga anak ang ginawa ng magkakapatid na naging matagumpay abroad at ibinahagi naman ang biyayang nakamit nila sa kanilang mga kababayan sa Wawa,” said re-elected Abucay Mayor Ana Santiago.
Dr. Augusto Adrid, a surgeon staying in the United States for 45 years, thanked the guests in the inauguration of the centers named after their late father Perfecto M. Adrid who was also former chief of police of Abucay.
The elder Adrid died at the age of 56 in 1958. He left eight children.
Construction of the buildings began last January under the supervision of businessman Renato Adrid, one of the children. The businessman although residing in Cavite has not forgotten his roots in Abucay.
Senior citizens showed their appreciation through a dance number. Even Aeta children from the town regaled the guests with songs and a cultural dance.
