PILAR, Bataan- The municipality of Pilar has announced the start of rehabilitation of the picturesque Dunsulan Falls at the foot of historic Mt. Samat in barangay Liyang.

Pilar Mayor Carlos Pizarro, Jr. said that concreting of the more than one kilometer road leading to one of the few beautiful falls in Bataan began with the release of P2 million coming from Senator Bong Revilla.

The Department of Public Works and Highways implements the road concreting. Construction of a road that will directly connect the falls to Mt. Samat  where a giant war memorial cross and shrine stand in memory of the heroism of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II has also began.

The mayor said more funds are coming from the Department of Agriculture, the congressional initiative of Rep. Albert Garcia of Bataan’s Second District, the provincial government under Gov. Enrique Garcia and the city government of Balanga for the rehabilitation of the falls.

Balanga City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III has entered into an agreement with the municipalities of Pilar and Orion into the formation of Metro Balanga, hence the assistance in funding of the Pilar tourist attraction.

“But we will see to it that the pristine beauty of nature surrounding the falls will not be altered and remains as is,” Pizarro said.

Still unknown to many, even to majority of Bataan residents, at the foot of the hallowed mountain of Samat, there lies the Dunsulan Falls surrounded by trees, wild flowers and other fauna. From above, the 93-meter high war memorial cross can be seen as if proudly swaying with the clouds.

A few meters on the way to the cascading falls from a steep road, the sounds of the chirping of the birds blend intermittently with the sounds of the water like sweet music to the ears.

The sight of the swift flow downwards of water in-between solid rock formation is breathtaking.

Visitors have to hike more than 500 meters of rough road made impassable to vehicles by the rains. He said that despite the predicament, busloads of people insist on going to the falls. “With the concreting being undertaken, the falls will now be easily accessible,” Pizarro said.

The Pilar mayor said that lifeguards will be permanently assigned in the area and additional security measures implemented to assure the safety of local and foreign tourists expected to flock the Dunsulan Fals.
