BALANGA CITY (PIA) — When taps run dry in parts of Bataan, residents can now rely on nine rainwater collector systems built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH Bataan 2nd District Engineer Roland Rainier Victorino said the project addresses recurring water supply interruptions and shortages, providing communities with an alternative supply for non-potable needs, mainly for sanitation and facility maintenance.
“Of the nine systems, seven were newly constructed and two rehabilitated. Each unit features a 4,000-liter stainless steel tank intended for collecting and storing rainwater,” Victorino emphasized.
Project Engineer Annie Rizza Santoyo said five units were installed in Balanga City.

These are located at the Evacuation Center and General Services Office in Barangay Tuyo, the multipurpose facility in Barangay Dangcol, Balanga Elementary School, and Cataning Elementary School.
Two more units were built in Pilar, located at Pablo Roman National High School and Sta. Rosa Elementary School.
In Orion, the systems were installed at the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Motorpool facility in Barangay Sto. Domingo.
The P2.6-million project was funded through the 2025 national budget under the DPWH Convergence and Special Support Program.
This initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s efforts to provide practical, cost-effective solutions for disaster preparedness and ensure that communities have access to basic services even during water supply disruptions. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
