BALANGA CITY (PIA) — Some 130 learners of Overland Elementary School in Bagac, Bataan will soon benefit from conducive classrooms with the completion of a new two-story, four-classroom building constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Located in Barangay Atilano L. Ricardo, the P13-million structure was funded through the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Basic Educational Facilities Fund under the 2024 national budget.

It supports the government’s push for accessible and quality education under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Designed with inclusivity and hygiene in mind, the facility features male, female, and PWD-friendly restrooms, an accessibility ramp, and a handwashing station.

Each classroom is furnished and equipped with proper ventilation to foster an effective learning environment.

DPWH Bataan 3rd District Engineer Maribel Navarro underscored the project’s importance in meeting the needs of learners.

“I would like to commend our team for their dedication, as this project represents a significant milestone in ensuring that students receive the quality education they deserve,” Navarro said.

Master Teacher Nora Jornal expressed gratitude to the DPWH and DepEd for the new building, which helped address their classroom shortage.

“Ang bagong building na ito ay hindi lang para sa aming mga guro, kundi para na rin sa mga bata na siyang tinuturuan namin upang maibigay sa kanila ang quality education na deserve nila,” she shared.

With a total floor area of 532 square meters, the facility is expected to help accommodate the school’s growing student population while reflecting the DPWH’s commitment to building modern infrastructure that supports the education sector.

The project complements the Marcos administration’s priority to improve school facilities nationwide, ensuring that young Filipinos, especially in rural areas, have safe and conducive classrooms for learning. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
