BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the provincial government of Bataan broke ground for the construction of a new public park at the Capitol Compound Oval in Balanga City.

Covering 3,040 square meters with a perimeter length of 201 meters, the park will be built in front of the old Provincial Capitol Building, a recognized national heritage site.

It has funding support of P10.136 million under the DBM’s Local Government Support Fund – Green Green Green Program.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the initiative aligns with the Marcos administration’s vision of providing sustainable and livable communities nationwide.

“This project symbolizes the government’s commitment to promoting a comfortable and livable environment for all, while upholding responsible development and sustainable green practices,” Pangandaman stressed, assuring that the full masterplan will be completed.

Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III thanked the DBM for supporting Bataan’s vision of building healthier and safer spaces for the public.

“Our goal is to make the lives of our people better by creating open spaces that they can enjoy with their families and community. Asahan niyo po na susuporta ang ating lalawigan sa mga ganitong klaseng program para sa ikabubuti ng bawat Pilipino at lalong lalo na ng bawat isang pamilyang Bataeño,” he said, emphasizing the province’s full support for initiatives that uplift families and communities.

Once completed, the park will feature landscaped areas, walking paths, an open area with shaded benches, a children’s playground, and solar-powered light posts.

It is expected to provide a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable public space while improving the urban landscape and environmental sustainability of the province.

The Green Green Green Program is DBM’s flagship initiative that provides financial assistance to local governments for the development of open spaces such as parks, plazas, and walkways to promote livable, sustainable, and inclusive communities. (CLJD/
