CABANATUAN CITY – The police’s intensified drive against loose firearms netted a total of 395 assorted weapons, including high powered firearms, in Nueva Ecija since the start of this year, police said.

Senior Supt. Eliseo Tanding, director of the Nueva Ecija police office, said the firearms were either recovered from criminal elements in series of police operations or surrendered by owners who failed to renew their respective licenses under Oplan Tokhang/ Bilang Boga.

The guns were presented to the media hours before the implementation of total gun ban, in connection with the start of election period on April 14, 2018 for the forthcoming barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections.

“Magsasagawa na rin tayo ng tuloy-tuloy na gun ban checkpoint,” Tanding said.

He said police will continue to knock on the doors of people who have failed to renew their firearms to make sure they will not land on the hands of criminal elements.

Checkpoints, he said, that will be conducted in Nueva Ecija’s 27 towns and five cities in coordination with the provincial elections office, led by Atty. Panfilo Doxtor, aim to ensure the peaceful conduct of the elections.
