CABANATUAN CITY – The 15-year-old girl victim of a shooting at the Santa Rosa Integrated School in Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija on Thursday cannot undergo surgery as the procedure “will be detrimental to the patient,” doctors said Saturday night.
The 18-year-old suspect, reportedly her ex-boyfriend, who turned the gun to himself after shooting the girl has succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head.
Dr. Allan Von Casallo, neuro surgeon consultant of the Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center (PJGMRMC) here said Zhane Entinado, who was admitted at the hospital from a private medical facility on Aug. 7, remains unstable and dependent on life support at their surgical intensive care unit.
“Her status at that time, dumating po sa ER nasa coma stage na po siya. Medyo mababa na rin po ‘yung blood pressure niya, ‘yung wala na siyang sariling paghinga,” Casallo said in a medical bulletin.
“Without the timely admission of the patient into the hospital and attachment of life support she would have most likely succumbed to her injuries,” he explained.
As a Department of Health hospital which strictly implements a zero-billing policy, PJGMRMC, the physician maintained, provides all medical services from admission, diagnostic procedures, life support, and medicines for the patient.
“And has never imposed monetary charges as a condition for her continued medical management or for any necessary medical procedure,” Casallo said, debunking social media posts that implied the patient’s stay in the hospital incurs huge cost.
“At present, surgical intervention o pag-o-opera and/or transport to another hospital has a high risk of causing cardio pulmonary arrest,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Santa Rosa police chief, Maj. Williard Dulnuan said they are still probing ownership of the .22 pistol used by the teenaged suspect.
