ANGELES CITY – A comprehensive review of the Department of Education programs in the city to determine their feasibility and prioritization in line with the city government’s goal to enhancing educational standards and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to benefit students and educators alike.

The DepEd-Angeles City, led by schools division superintendent Engr. Edgard Domingo presented a comprehensive list of educational priorities that require attention and action from the government during a meeting with Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II on July 14.

While the mayor expressed his willingness to consider these priorities carefully, he said that he will order a review the list and prioritize initiatives based on the availability of funds and the feasibility of implementation.

“We will look into these priorities, focusing first on those that can be practically achieved within our current budget,” Lazatin said. “Our goal is to act on the most immediate and feasible needs to improve the quality of education in Angeles City.”

One of the key initiatives highlighted by Lazatin involves the provision of computer resources for students. He emphasized the importance of equipping students with basic computer literacy skills, especially as they prepare for computer-based assessments such as the Philippine Educational Placement Tests.

The mayor shared his intention to provide common computers in the city’s public school computer labs, ensuring that students have access to the necessary tools to develop their digital literacy.

While acknowledging the importance of teachers having access to laptops for instructional purposes, the mayor noted that students must also be proficient in basic computer skills.

“While it is vital for our teachers to have laptops for lesson planning and online teaching, it is equally important for our students to learn how to operate computers effectively,” he said. “This will prepare them not only for assessments but also for future job opportunities in an increasingly digital world.”

Lazatin further emphasized the need to upgrade the overall education system in Angeles City. He expressed his vision of molding students into literate and competent citizens, capable of contributing meaningfully not only to the city but also to the nation. Angeles CIO
