CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region III is encouraging the public to step up readiness in lieu of the rainy season and heat index.
OCD Regional Information Officer Francesca Quizon reminded the public to take precautionary measures to stay safe and healthy during the rain showers and localized thunderstorms.
“Even with the rains coming in, the heat index remains high. We advise the public to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours and drink plenty of water. Use umbrellas, wear protective clothing, and avoid drinks like soda or tea that may cause dehydration,” she advised.
She also warned the public about hazards associated with thunderstorms, including lightning and strong winds.
“Even light rain can come with hazards. Stay away from trees and electric posts and always monitor weather alerts from PAGASA,” Quizon stressed.
To strengthen disaster resilience, OCD continues to assist local government units in conducting quarterly earthquake and flood drills, as well as in updating their local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) plans.
“We want every community, especially at the barangay level, to be prepared. Preparedness should always start before any disaster happens,” she noted.
In addition, OCD partners with the Department of the Interior and Local Government to facilitate DRRM training for newly elected local officials in order to ensure the continuity of preparedness and response efforts.
For updates on weather conditions and disaster preparedness, the public is encouraged to visit the official Facebook page of OCD Region III or contact their local DRRM offices. (CLJD/MJSC, PIA Region 3-Pampanga with reports from PIA Interns)
