BALER, Aurora (PIA) — About 300 police officers from various stations across Aurora participated in a cybersecurity awareness session spearheaded by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The session is part of a monthly initiative that aims to equip law enforcers with the knowledge and skills needed to identify cyber threats, prevent potential attacks, and respond effectively to incidents.

DICT Aurora Provincial Head John Erick Delos Reyes noted that as government operations continue to shift to digital platforms, it is essential for public servants, particularly law enforcers, to be equipped with the skills to protect data and digital infrastructure to ensure secure and efficient delivery of services.
“Cybersecurity is now a core component of public safety. By strengthening the capabilities of our police officers, we are also helping safeguard the communities they serve,” Delos Reyes said.
DICT Region III Cybersecurity Planning Officer Domingo Chico Jr., who served as the resource speaker, discussed current cybercrime trends, essential digital hygiene practices, and the importance of proactive security measures in reducing risks across both personal and institutional settings.
Participants were also introduced to real-life case scenarios and encouraged to apply digital safety principles within their respective stations and communities.
“These discussions aimed to raise awareness on how cyber threats evolve and how simple, preventive measures—such as strong password management, cautious online behavior, and regular system updates—can significantly reduce vulnerabilities.” Delos Reyes furthered.
Meanwhile, DICT continues to advance digital inclusion through its flagship programs, including the Free Public Internet Access Program, which provides internet connectivity in public spaces, and Digital Transformation Centers, which offer digital literacy, skills training, and access to e-Government services.
These support the agency’s broader goal of building a digitally empowered society by ensuring that both institutions and communities are equipped to thrive in the digital age. (CLJD/MAT, PIA Region 3-Aurora)
