CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Provincial Government of Pampanga expressed its full support during the official launch of the Santungan ning Kulturang Kapampangan as the Cultural Hub of Pampanga on June 18.

Representing incoming Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, 2nd District board member Claire Lim shared the province’s commitment to preserving and promoting Kapampangan heritage through culture-based tourism.

Also present were provincial tourism officer Mike Castañeda and local tourism officers from various cities and municipalities, all united in pushing forward initiatives that highlight Kapampangan identity and traditions.

The event was led by the Department of Tourism – Region 3 with director Dr. Richard Daenos, in partnership with the Foundation for Lingap Kapampangan, Inc. (FLKI) and the Pampanga Arts, Culture, and Tourism Office.

Located on the historic grounds of the former Pampanga High School and UP Extension Program—pillars of local education and civic learning—the Santungan has been reimagined as a vibrant cultural space.

Once damaged by the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, the site now stands as a symbol of resilience and cultural pride.

As a recognized cultural hub, the Santungan will host free workshops, seminars, educational tours, and cultural programs that aim to strengthen community identity and foster innovation through cultural preservation.

Supported by DOT-3, the initiative is expected to spark similar movements across Central Luzon, enriching the region’s tourism landscape through heritage and history. Photos: GGG
