CABANATUAN CITY -Two alleged hired guns supposedly involved in the failed attempt to kill a popular cager of the Philippine Pascual Association (PBA) were arrested in separate operations by the Nueva Ecija police’s provincial public safety company (PPSC).

Supt. Ricardo Villanueva, PPSC commander, identified the suspects as Carlos Pangilinan, 60, of Barangay San Miguel na Munti, and Orlando Santos, 35, of Barangay Bantug, both in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

Castillejos said that Hernandez was arrested at about 4 p.m. Thursday in Barangay Penabatan, Pulilan, Bulacan by a team led by SPO1 Gerry Santos on the strength of warrants of arrest for a separate case of murder and frustrated murder by a regional trial court here while Pangilinan was accosted an hour later in Sitio Tagpos, Barangay Soledad, Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija.

Follow up investigation showed the duo were involved in an attempt to kill Talk N Text star player Ali Peek on Nov. 7, 2011.

The Hawaii-born Peek who plays center for TNT was shot in the nape at the parking lot of RFM Gym at the corner of Sheridan and Pioneer Sts., Mandaluyong City. He told investigators that someone he thought to be among his fans tried to grab his bag then someone shot him.

Initial report showed the gunman was 32 to 36 years old, 5’5" to 5’6" in height with dark complexion and medium built.

Senior Supt. Walter Castillejos, Nueva Ecija police director, said that Hernandez is accused in the killing of a certain Jolly Capati Villar of Barangay San Fernando Sur, Cabiao, Nueva Ecija and a security guard at Natividad Orchids farm in Barangay Daang Sarili here in 2011 for which the court recommended no bail.

Pangilinan on the other hand was cornered in an anti-criminality checkpoint after an asset informed the police that members of a gun-for-hire group would be passing Barangay Soledad.

“Operatives recovered from Pangilinan a cal. 38 revolver with four rounds of ammunition,” Villanueva reported.

The two are said to be members of the Elesio gun-for-hire Group. They are now detained at the detention facility of PPSC here while waiting for court commitment orders, police said.
