Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office III Market Specialist  Jennelyn Ibale said the product being sold is good quality and freshly harvested by the local farmers.

Republic Act 11203, otherwise known as the Rice Tariffication Law, mandated the National Food Authority (NFA) to purchase in bulk rice directly from local farmers that will serve as buffer stock that can be supplied to local government units (LGUs) during calamities or emergencies.

Pursuant to the directive of President Marcos,  the NFA increased its rice selling to LGUs then later on to priority sectors.

For Elena Habon, a senior citizen of Barangay San Manuel, the selling of this cheap but good quality rice is a fulfillment of the campaign promise of the President.

Moreover, Josefina Batarmos of Barangay Palmera said the program is a big help in preparing meals for her children in school.

The DA is set to sell P20 per kilo of rice in the municipalities of San Ildefonso and San Miguel in the coming weeks. (CLJD/SFV, PIA Region 3-Bulacan)
