RIZAL, Nueva Ecija – Some 130 families from an outskirt village here benefitted from the community pantry and medical mission conducted by an electric cooperative on Friday.
Despite torrential rains brought by Typhoon Kristine, officials and employees of Nueva Ecija II Electric Cooperative – Area 2 and a medical team from the town’s super health center trooped to Sitio Nambabaklan, Barangay Gen. Luna here to extend support to residents.
Engr. Luisito Lorente, chief of the NEECO II – Area 2 institutional services division, said the activity was part of the National Cooperative Month celebration.
The beneficiaries were the coop’s member-consumers under barangay power association (BAPA), he explained. Under BAPA, residents in a certain community have one mother meter that the power coop reads and bills.
“At siyempre po may konting feeding program,” Lorente said, adding that their employees shelled out voluntary contributions for the project.
The goods included rice, canned goods, noodles and coffee.
Aside from medical check-up, they also gave vitamins for children.
Aling Mina, 74, a resident, said the goods she received will be a big help for her and her husband who make a living by planting backyard vegetable.
“Sana maulit pa,” she said.
