SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ – A 39-year old Novo Ecijano topped the secondary level of the recent Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Benedict Barayuga, a native of Licab, Nueva Ecija, scored 91.60 in the examination given last April 5. He, however, shared the stellar honor with a UP-Diliman graduate who scored the same rating percentage.
A total of 23,975 took the LET in the secondary level but only 5,914 passed the examination, according to the PRC. It represented a passing rate of 24.67 percent.
Barayuga originally took a degree in Bachelor of Science in Biology at the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) here in 2002. Graduating with magna cum laude honors, he subsequently taught for two years in CLSU.
He later resigned, entered the seminary for a while, and then took up 18 units of education subjects in UP-Diliman. He is currently staying in Manila where he is engaged in part-time teaching in select schools as he pursues his master’s degree.
His parents, Geminiano and Lydia Barayuga, along with his three other siblings, are currently residing at the CLSU compound here.
The board exam topnotcher is still single, his parents said.
In the elementary level licensure examination for teachers, a graduate of the Holy Angel University in Angeles City, Charmaine Vilarica Ariem, placed sixth. She posted a rating of 88.20 percent.
A total of 7,470 examinees, out of 26,812 hopefuls, took the LET in the elementary level. The figures represented 27.86 percent passing rate.
