BALANGA CITY – A 1,003-meter farm-to-market road in Barangay Mabatang and a P9.90-million diversion dam along the Capitangan River both in Abucay, Bataan have been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer Erlindo Flores Jr. said the once gravel FTM road has been upgraded to a five-meter wide, two-lane concrete pavement complete with slope protection with grouted riprap in specific sections to safeguard the road from erosion and enhance overall stability and resilience.
“The completed infrastructure empowers the farming community, ensuring their efforts benefit families,” he said of the P13.5-million project under the convergence program of the DPWH and Department of Agriculture with funds sourced from the 2023 General Appropriations Act.
The diversion dam, Flores said, was designed and built in four parts: a 16-linear meter dam, a 232-linear meter lined canal, 20-linear meter slope protection, and the placement of 336 cubic meters of gabions.
“The completed structure also serves as a flood gate against the destructive power of floods by controlling the flow of water during heavy rains, with the gabions placed strategically to effectively manage stormwater runoff by slowing down and temporarily storing excess rainfall,” he furthered.
This, while at the same time enhancing Barangay Capitangan’s irrigation system.
“The completion of the projects exemplifies DPWH’s commitment to enhancing communities, stimulating economic growth, and improving the quality of life for Bataan residents,” said Flores.
