PALAUIG, Zambales – Eight days after hospital confinement, the 9-year-old rape victim from this town died from injuries she sustained from her Nov. 11 ordeal.
The rape suspect died in a gunfight with police in Masinloc town last Sunday.
Barangay Locloc chairman Eddie Aurelio in a radio interview said the girl struggled with wounds inflicted on her by her rapist and died in a hospital inside the Subic Bay Freeport.
The victim was first confined in a hospital in Zambales where doctors found blood clot in her brain, which required her to be immediately transferred to another hospital.
But due to strict Covid-19 protocols, the girl was transferred only last Thursday and died shortly after arriving in the other hospital, according to Aurelio.
The alleged rapist, Christopher Abella, 38, an ex-convict, was killed inside his safehouse Nov. 15, after he engaged in a shootout policemen who were serving a warrant for his arrest.
