600 drug dependents surrender to Bato

    BALANGA CITY – Some 600 confessed drug users and pushers in Bataan on Friday surrendered to PNP Director-General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa at Camp Tolentino here.

    Wearing white shirts, the drug dependents coming from different towns in Bataan, pledged to the PNP chief that they would not go back to their old ways and accepted the reformation offered by the police.

    Dela Rosa inaugurated the Bahay Pag-asa Reformation Center annex in barangay Lamao in Limay town.

    The two-story building is an abandoned barracks of the PNP that can accommodate 100 drug addicts for rehabilitation.

    The main building of Bahay Pag-asa Reformation Center is located In Camp Tolentino, seat of the Bataan Police Provincial Office.

    Dela Rosa lauded the Bataan PPO for establishing the centers to help drug-dependents who wanted to reform. He said that the PNP is intensifying its resolve to rid the country of illegal drugs as directed by President Duterte.

    “It is better that you surrender and reform than be the target of the long arm of the law,” he told the surrendering drug-dependents.

    Gov. Albert Garcia welcomed Dela Rosa and pledged that the local government units are one with the police in the drive against the illegal drug menace.

    Newly-installed Bataan police director Senior Supt. Benjamin Silo acknowledged the efforts of outgoing provincial director Senior Supt. Rhodel Sermonia in starting the Bahay Pag-asa Reformation Center.

    He said that with the good program, drug-dependents are given the chance of a new life.

    “Tulak man o gumagamit ng droga, they are welcome to undergo rehabilitation in these centers. They will have the opportunity to reflect and have additional skills through trainings to be given by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority,” Silo said.

    He said that more drug-dependents are going to surrender in the next few days.
