BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Some 50 women on Monday graduated from skills training/workshop as massage attendants and manicurists sponsored by the Balanga City government as part of the celebration of Women’s Month.

City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III said more women will be trained in various skills to be productive and have extra income. He said the graduates came from 25 barangays of the city.

The women underwent a five-day skills training at the ground floor of the four-story Galeria Victoria in Balanga City with the theme “Galing ng Masahista at Manikuristang Balangueno.”

Assisting the city government in the training are the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Balanga City Cooperatives.

“Subok na mga kababaihan sa galing at husay tulad ng mga nagtapos na ito na dati sa tahanan lamang pero ngayon may alternatibong kabuhayan na,” City Councilor Liza Vasquez said. Vasquez is chair of the Committee on Women and Family of the Sangguniang Panglungsod.

Purita Valero and Leah Francisco, two of the graduates, were grateful to the city government for sponsoring the training. “Malaking bagay ito sa amin sapagka’t nagkaroon kami ng hanapbuhay at makakatulong na sa aming pamilya,” they said.

City Administrator Rudy de Mesa said the city government will serve as marketing arm to help the new massage attendants and manicurists gain more customers.
