CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A total of 44 cancer patients received P2.1 million in medical assistance, along with 25 kilograms of rice each, to help ease the financial burden of treatment and other household needs.
Among the beneficiaries is 67-year-old Alfredo Salvado, a former overseas Filipino worker who worked as a technician in Saudi Arabia. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer after undergoing a medical test in May. His diagnosis came as a shock to his family, as he had reportedly experienced no noticeable symptoms prior to the examination.
Salvado received P290,000 to help cover the cost of his medicines and oral chemotherapy.
“Malaking bagay po sa amin ang tulong na ito, lalo na sa mga katulad kong may sakit at kapos sa buhay. Sa panahon pong halos hindi na namin alam kung saan kukuha ng panggastos at panggamot, napakalaking ginhawa na may taong handang umalalay,” he said. “Kaya taos-puso po akong nagpapasalamat kay Nanay. Hindi lang po tulong ang ibinibigay niya—binibigyan niya rin kami ng pag-asa at lakas ng loob.”
