4 killed in anti-crime ops

CABANATUAN CITY – Three alleged drug peddlers were killed in an anti-drug operation in Purok 2, Barangay Sta. Arcadia here at about 8:45 p.m. on Good Friday.

This, a day after a suspected carnapper was killed in an encounter with lawmen in Barangay Maragol, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija at around 8:15 p.m. on Maundy Thursday.

Police identified those killed in the buy-bust operation conducted by the drug enforcement unit of the Cabanatuan City Police Station (CCPS-SDEU) as Enrico Lamar and Ricky Duran, both listed as drug personalities by the local police; and Bernard Meneses, top listed in the motorcycle riding suspects (MRS) of Peñaranda town police.

Supt. Ponciano Zafra, city police chief, said the operation against the trio was conducted in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Forensic investigators recovered from the suspects a .45 pistol, a 9mm pistol, a .32 pistol, all with live bullets; 13 sachets of shabu, the two pieces of marked P1,000 bills, a pick-up truck (XDX- 131), and a single motorcycle.

Police, meanwhile, have yet to establish the identity of the man who was found in possession of carnapped motorcycle after a supposed gunfight with policemen.

The other managed to escape, police said.
