CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A total of 35 Indigenous Peoples (IP) youth in Porac, Pampanga graduated from a Digital Literacy Training.

It was spearheaded by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and National Commission on Indigenous Peoples.

DICT Pampanga Provincial Head Edriel Miranda said the initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, since most IP communities are facing unique barriers to access and opportunity, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Narrowing the gap of the digital divide would enable the indigenous youth to become more proficient in the use of technology and digital information. It is essential that these can also be received, understood and used by indigenous people,” Miranda stressed.

The activity provided basic training course on computer and Internet essentials, computer hardware, networking and troubleshooting, document processing, electronic spreadsheet, and multimedia presentation.

Introductory lectures on information and communications technology, and data privacy; as well as hands-on learning experience were also part of the five-day event.

The program is part of the continuing demonstration of the DICT Central Luzon’s mission in preparing the youth for the digital future, bridging the digital divide, and developing digitally inclusive communities.

Aside from capacity building, IP community in barangay Inararo had also been a beneficiary of DICT’s Free Wifi Program installed in October 2021.
