BALANGA CITY — The provincial government of Bataan awarded three of 14 barangays of Samal town in Bataan the “1Bataan Seal of Healthy Barangay” on Sept. 25.

Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd handed the awards to barangay chairmen Reynaldo De Castro of Tabing Ilog, Bernardo Pinili of West Calaguiman, and Federico Mena of East Daan Bago in ceremonies at the Bataan People’s Center here.

Samal Mayor Alexander Acuzar and municipal health officer Dr. Ryan James Suguitan joined the village heads in receiving the incentives “for good and efficient implementation of health programs in their barangay.”

Each of the three villages received P100,000 in cash while East Daan Bago got an additional P100,000 for being the only winner during the first quarter of 2023.

The governor acknowledged the leadership of Mayor Acuzar as well as the three village officials.

“1Bataan Seal of Healthy Barangay” was launched by the provincial government on July 18, 2019 to improve the overall health condition of Bataeños.

As an incentive-based program, it targets to recognize barangays with zero case of dengue, animal bite, as well as maternal and infant death, among some others. Another criterion for the award to be conferred is that the barangay must be drug-free.
