The two grandmothers who received a Centenarian Award were Salome C. Magpayo, 101, of Barangay Cut-Cut 1 and Florentina C. Reyes, 103, of Barangay O’ Donnell.
Local residents said only in the term of Rodriguez that centenarians got to be recognized with cash gifts and awards. Some 600 senior citizens attended the occasion and witnessed the awarding.
“Ngayon lang po namin naranasan sa aming bayan ang sinserong pagkalinga sa aming mga nakatatanda. Mahal na mahal po kami ng aming mayor at ibinibigay po niya ang aming mga pangangailangan,” said the old folk.
The cash gift is in accordance with Municipal Ordinance No. 006-2015 legislated by the sangguniang bayan led by Vice Mayor Boots Rodriguez.
Mayor TJ Rodriguez said that one of the priorities of his administration is the care to the elderly, “to provide their needs and welfare that is due service for them as a token of gratitude.”
“Without them, we would not exist, we should love them and take extra care for them,” he added.
