Bataan Gov. Albert Garcia
BALANGA CITY — Two teachers from Mariveles were the first recipients from Bataan of the Outstanding Covid–19 Volunteer Award from the National Economic and Development Authority “for their unequalled dedication in serving people in the midst of the pandemic we are facing,” Gov. Albert Garcia announced Tuesday.
The awardees are Dervin Ramos and Janice Caalam of Barangay San Carlos in Mariveles.
“Lubos ang aking paghanga at pasasalamat sa inyong serbisyo at sakripisyo para sa kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan. Magsilbi nawa kayong inspirasyon sa ating lahat at makaaasa kayo na patuloy ang suporta ng ating pamahalaang panlalawigan sa mga adhikain ng bawat barangay para sa ikabubuti ng bawat Bataeño,” Garcia told the two.
Ramos is a computer teacher in Grades 4 to 6 while Caalam is a Grade 5 teacher, both at the AG Llamas Elementary School (AGLES) in Mariveles.
The governor said NEDA took note of the services offered by the two during the lockdowns of their barangay due to the coronavirus disease.
Ramos served as the call center and secretariat manager of the barangay emergency operations center (BEOC) of San Carlos during the lockdown.
Records showed that the center answered 1,098 calls for emergency assistance, queries, and Telemedicine which catered not only to residents of San Carlos but of nearby barangays too.
Caalam on the other hand served as the donations manager of San Carlos BEOC during the lockdowns which facilitated the inflow of more than P1-million worth of both monetary and in-kind donations for the people of the barangay.
She also ensured that all donations were properly accounted for, thereby upholding the principles of transparency and accountability in public governance, San Carlos barangay chairman Ivan Ricafrente said.
“Both of them served as intermediaries in AGLES para makahiram kami ng mga gamit sa Kusina ng Barangay na project ni governor. Nakahiram kami ng freezer, heavy duty stoves, and kitchenware para ‘yong pera na galing sa provincial government sa pagkain lahat napunta,” the village head further said.
