SAMAL, Bataan – The 1st Child Development Center in Region 3 was inaugurated Friday as part of the Mother & Child Center in this fourth class municipality.

Samal Mayor Gene dela Fuente said that the Child Development Center (CDC) is the 20th center so far established out of the 100 to be set up nationwide as directed by Pres. Benigno Aquino III.

The CDC rises in the same lot adjacent to the Samal municipal hall where the Samal Lying-in Center is located.

The two buildings connected to each other are known as the Mother & Child Center. “Ang tawag namin dito ay sentro ng kalinga ang buhay,” the mayor said.

The Lying-In Center becomes the first mini-hospital in Samal that will attend to pregnant women in the town, inhabited mostly by farmers and fishermen. “From now on, every new Samaleño will be born in this center.

No need to go to Balanga City or Orani town,” dela Fuente said.

The Early Childhood Care and Development Council funded the construction of the CDC that will look after the welfare of children aged 0 -3 years old and parents who will be taught   proper child rearing.

“It will be a sort of children’s laboratory where even day care teachers in the province will be trained here,” dela Fuente said.

Gracing the inauguration were Reps. Herminia Roman and Albert Garcia of the First and Second districts, respectively and health and social welfare and development officials in Bataan and Region 3.

Samal was adjudged in 2011 as the most child-friendly municipality in Region 3.
