From the traditional japanese paper lanterns, the iconic Parul Fernandino has evolved through various creative innovations.

This year, another type of lantern emerges: the Nebulae Light-Emitting Diode(LED) Synchronized Application.

Alvin Garcia, proprietor of Balantuk Enterprises and Nebulae LSA inventor introduced a hard plastic parol with divisions and easy-assemble format.

The Nebulae LSA is expected to be longer lasting because of its adjustable and replaceable structure because it is made from molded plastic injection with currently one creative design.

Illuminating homes and establishments, the Nebulae has thirty different light plays and is 24 inches in diameter with 26 LED bulbs available in 110 volts and 220 volts.

For almost four years, the inventor, who has been into lanternmaking since he was 12 years old, carefully assembled his very own Nebulae LSA which now saves time to create and even saves electricity consumption.

The idea of the new style of traditional lantern was born from Garcia’s merriments during drinking sessions. He was staring at the plastic beer cases when he thought that he can create lanterns from the structure of the cases.

Garcia never stopped tinkering and manipulating materials for the Nebulae project. Coincidentally, he was acquianted with a start-up plastic injection company and they were able to collaborate in order to give form to a new kind of lantern.

Keeping the tradition while keeping up with modern times,”this is one way of keeping our faith and our testament of Christ’s birth. Lanternmaking not only shares the spirit of Christmas, but also opens more opportunities for business and cultural promotion,” said Garcia.

The Nebulae pioneer has also been coordinating with provincial leaders to help train the younger generation in lanternmaking because for him, the lanternmaking industry is an identity of Fernandinos and Kapampangans at large.

The inventor secured a pantent from the Bureau of Patents under the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines for his industrial design of the Christmas Lantern structure.

A proud Fernandino, Garcia was able to utilize both his hobby and passion as he gains profit from his bright and vibrant creations.
