ABUCAY, Bataan – Former Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri on Thursday said that his resignation means he was cutting political ties with former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the Lakas-CMD party.
He said that he has become independent but many political parties are signifying intention to woo him.
“Alam ko na may tampo sa akin ang dating Pangulo ng bumitiw ako sa puwesto dahil kapartido ako, kagrupo at nanalo sa partido nila pero wala akong magagawa,” Zubiri said.
As to the cases filed against the former President, he said that Mrs. Arroyo has to answer them. The resigned senator said he pity Mrs. Arroyo, especially so that she was her Godmother when he got married.
“Bilang isang tao, naaawa tayo sa taong may sakit ngunit may mga kasong na-file kaya kailangang sagutin at walang exception sa kaso,” he said. He did not elaborate but said that the cases should be left to the court to decide.
Zubiri, together with provincial Board member Dexter Dominguez or Teri Onor, visited the towns of Abucay,
Samal, Orani, Hermosa and Dinalupihan. They distributed packs of rice and canned goods to about 500 Grade 1 pupils in depressed barangays.
The project was under Zubiri’s “Handog Pagmamahal Para sa Munting Mag-aaral” or a sort of feeding program for Grade 1 pupils.
Zubiri said he intends to run for senator again in 2013. He also said that he has just visited Tacloban City in Leyte, Bacolod City, Davao and Bulacan.
Provincial Board member Jojo Payumo and his mother, former municipal Mayor Lucy Payumo, welcomed Zubiri and Onor in Dinalupihan.
