MABALACAT CITY – The continuous decline in the number of new cases of the coronavirus disease has been noted in Pampanga since the start of February.
Here, it went further down – to nil – on Saturday and Monday, according to an update of the city government’s Covid-19 Response Integrated System (CRIS). This makes the city the first to register zero in new cases in the whole of Pampanga since the surge brought by the Omicron variant after the Christmas season.
As of Feb. 21, CRIS noted, there are only 10 active cases in the city: 3 in Lakandula; 2 each in Sta. Ines, Sta. Maria, and Tabun; and 1 in Sapang Biabas.
Mayor Crisostomo Garbo credited the massive vaccination campaign of the city government for the dramatic decline of Covid cases in the city, as well as for the low mortality, also recorded at zero for the two days on record.
Top performer
Mabalacat City’s vax program has earned praises from the national government.
At the launch of the pediatric vaccination for 5-11 years old at SM City Clark last Friday, no less than Presidential Adviser on Covid-19 Response Secretary Vince Dizon lauded the city government.,
“Top performer ang Mabalacat [sa vaccination] hindi lamang sa Pampanga kundi sa buong Central Luzon. Hindi madali itong ginawa nina Mayor Cris at Vice Mayor Geld. I think ang Mabalacat, siya lang sa Pampanga na practically 100 percent ng target population ay naabot na niya, at tumutulong pa siya sa mga kapit-bahay na munisipyo,” said Dizon.
