Chito Manlapaz, Yakimix regional manager, said they have complied with all the necessary requirements from the City Health Office (CHO) which ordered its temporary closure two weeks ago after 43 customers suffered from gastroenteritis and other illnesses as a result from eating in the restaurant.
It can be recalled that CHO chief Dr. Leonario T. Santos had ordered the temporary closure of the restaurant after scores of customers suffered illnesses and ended up in various hospitals.
The restaurant was found to have 17 violations in its operations including the employees’ lack of health cards.
On Sunday, Manlapaz said they have double checked everything especially cleanliness; their food handlers underwent retraining and have complied with the CHO requirements; and their suppliers are now supervising food storage which is now kept above the industry standard.
He assured that all of their 45 employees are now ready to serve safe and delicious food to their customers as he invited Yakimix customers to try out the restaurant again.
Manlapaz also said the company has met all of their financial obligations to their clients who incurred hospital bills and medical expenses.
Meanwhile, Yakimix has posted notices on every table inside the restaurant to remind customers of the proper way to handle both raw and cooked food: “To avoid cross contamination, please do not mix cooked and raw foods together.”
A caution which says “consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish or egg may increase your risk of foodborne illness especially if you have a medical condition,” is also prominently displayed.
Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting was present during the reopening as well as families, guests and members of the media.
