KAPAMPANGANS MIGHT have their first woman governor in time for this Christmas.

This projection is not from the camp of former provincial board member Lilia Pineda whose petition for recount of gubernatorial votes cast in 2007 is now being done by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), but from Gov. Eddie Panlilio’s lawyer Ernesto Francisco.

So opened yesterday’s banner story of this paper headlined Pampanga will have 1st woman governor  and kickered Panlilio’s lawyer says.

That shows the abject ignorance of Panlilio’s lawyer – if he indeed said it – of things political in Pampanga.

A Governor Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda will not make the first woman governor of Pampanga.

That title had long been bestowed – in the early ‘70s yet – upon the Honorable Juanita Lumanlan Nepomuceno, who also had the distinction of being first woman congressperson of Pampanga, earned in the ‘60s. Apung Saning also served as member of the Batasang Pambansa owing to her election in1978. This was the last elected post she held prior to her retirement.

From her line descended once Pampanga Vice Gov. Robin Nepomuceno who is now Barangay Cutcut chairman and alleged harasser of Perto Cruz of the Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement, and Angeles City Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno, principal proponent of the already approved P813-million sports complex proposal sans any designated site yet. But those – of Misters Robin and Blue – are stories totally separate from the issue at hand.

So this Attorney Francisco was all wrong in saying – if he indeed said it – that Nanay Baby would earn the title of first woman governor.

His being wrong though is easily forgivable. He’s not from Pampanga, a Capitol mole told us.
Of a totally different kind of wrong are Panlilio’s discordant chu-chu-wa-ri-wa  chorus of  Kapampangan Kontra Recount (K2R).

This K2R by claiming “people” in their every statement rabidly pro-Panlilio and rubbish-ly anti-everyone not blindly adhering to their god are doing the Kapampangan people a grave wrong.

Now, what right has this K2R to arrogate unto itself the very character of the Kapampangan people when the best they could muster in their movement and protest actions is a measly 100 warm bodies, “curious onlookers included” as that CLTV-36 newsman said?

Does this audience of 100 enough to merit the collective “Kapampangan people” invoked by K2R? Lest we forget, Pampanga has over a million voters.

Why, that 100 – go on, bloat it to 300 inclusive of Harvey Khe and Kaya Natin! – is but a drop in the congregation of 5,000 faithful on any given day at the prayer hall of Madame Lolita Hizon in Barangay Cabalantian, Bacolor. Or to the thousands who flocked to the series of anti-Dabusado and anti-Panlilio rallies staged by the dismissed quarrymen of the Biyaya a Luluguran at Sisikapan (Balas) last year.

If that 100-raised-to-300 already comprised the “Kapampangan people” to the K2R, then what would they consider of the over 224,000 Kapampangan voters who signed the petition for the recall of Panlilio?

“People” is determined by numbers. Just as elections are, the recounting of votes included. There, K2R is most certainly in the wrong.
