BALANGA CITY – More than 100 members of the Bataan Skateboarding group rolled down the commercial district here Saturday morning in celebration of World Skaters’ Day.
Participants composed mostly of teenaged girls and boys warmed up with their skateboarding skills at the Bataan Terminal before proceeding to the skating rink at the park of Dona Francisca Subdivision.
On the way, they climbed up the newly-constructed elevated Ibayo Bridge and shouted in triumph while freewheeling in fast speed down the big bridge.
At the skating rink in Dona Francisca, they showed their expertise in skateboarding like hurdling various elevated platforms.
Margene Ryan Macob, leader of the Bataan Skateboarding organization, said they are celebrating Skaters’ Day being observed in different parts of the world.
“Ginagawa namin ang ganitong aktibidad para ma-recognize ng mga tao na ito’y hindi lamang basta sports kundi isang samahang binubuo ng masidhi at solidong pagkakaibigan at matinding pagmamahal sa sports na ito,” the 22-year old group head said.
He said that they are in the fourth year in conducting the activity around Balanga City.
“Ang layunin namin ay upang ilayo ang mga kabataan sa masamang bisyo at magsilbi na ring isang malinis na libangan at exercise,” Macob said.
The youngest in the skateboarding activity was an eight-year old boy while the oldest a 32-year old man.
Participants came from 11 towns and one city in the province.
Macob called on those interested in the sports to see them at the Dona Francisca Park.
