BALANGA CITY — Two groups in Bataan, both led by women, registered strong opposition to changes in the 1987 Philippine Constitution that they claimed are not to the advantage of the citizens but in the interest of politicians.

The two organizations under the umbrella of the Kilusang Pambansang Demokrasya-Bataan are the Kababaihang Bataeño para Kalikasan, Karapatan at Pagbabago under chairperson Emily Fajardo, and Pangisda-Bataan headed by Edlyn Rosales.

Fajardo said her group is for the rejection of charter change because they believe that the 1987 Constitution might not be perfect but has many progressive provisions as a result of the EDSA revolution and people power.

Fajardo noted that tinkering the economic provision of the 1987 Constitution will open the free flow of goods in the country that will affect small Filipino producers and farmers.

Rosales also argued that members of her fisherman’s group are against the cha-cha that she said will not benefit the majority of our people.

Rosales said.
