PORAC, Pampanga – Opposition Councilor Mike Tapang has agreed “in principle” to support the establishment of a Don Honorio Ventura Technical State University (DHVTSU) extension here after its proponents led by the mayor included the amendments he had asked for.

Tapang said he agreed with the project after he was assured that residents of Porac will be the “first priority” to study at DHVTSU-Porac.

In a phone interview on Thursday, Vice Mayor Dexter David said he and Mayor Carling De La Cruz thanked Tapang for supporting the DHVTSU extension.

“It’s a win-win solution for the benefit of the people,” said David.

“My major concern was on how they will spend the yearly P3 million subsidy of the Porac government,” Tapang said.

He added that he was also assured that the local government unit (LGU) will not be obliged to give P3-million annually for 25 years.

“I will wait for the breakdown on the spending of the P3 million annually before I finally sign the agreement,” Tapang said.

David said that officials of the DHVTSU met with Tapang and De La Cruz at the municipal hall to thresh out the disagreements on the proposed  Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the LGU and the state university.

David said that they added amendments in the MOA beneficial to the people of Porac.

One of which, he added, is that Porac will remain as owners of the school and its facilities after they turned over the operations to the DHVTSU.

David said the DHVTSU-Porac will initially have between “300 to 400” students when it begins operation late this year. De La Cruz also said he had wanted the school to begin offering courses by the second semester of 2012.
