CABANATUAN CITY – A police officer was shot dead with his own gun by his 65-year-old father-in-law in the middle of a “heated argument” between him and his wife in Barangay Aduas Norte here at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police identified the fatality as Cpl. Marlon de Guzman, detailed at Aliaga municipal police station in Nueva Ecija while the suspect is Alberto Manigao, resident of the same place.
Nueva Ecija police director Col. Jaime Santos, said the cop’s wife whose name was withheld sustained a gunshot wound in her right arm.
Santos said Manigao allegedly grabbed the policeman’s gun and shot him “several times” upon witnessing him slapping and poking the handgun to his wife while having a heated argument
De Guzman died instantly while the wife was rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment, police said.
“The timely response of Patrulya ng Bayan members of said Station has resulted in the arrest of the said suspect,” said city police chief Lt. Col. Barnard Danie Dasugo.
Police are preparing appropriate charges against the suspect.
