CLARK FREEPORT – The Widus Foundation Inc.’s “Adopt A Library” project will be awarding its first beneficiary on October 20.

The Masamat Elementary School in Mexico, Pampanga will be the first beneficiary of the project, according to the foundations newly appointed manager Ronnel T. Golimlim.

“It’s a concept of helping public primary and elementary schools,” he said during the “Talk Widus” media forum organized by the Pampanga Press Club at the Widus Hotel and Casino here on Wednesday.

The foundation will be giving a 40-foot container van to the elementary school for the benefit of the students.

Golimlim said the school principal was “super grateful” for the project as the place where the library will be put-up was already prepared and its surrounding area festooned with plants.

“We will not stop with just constructing or giving a library,” he said. “We will continue doing after school projects with some of our employees like read-along programs to enhance the students’ reading comprehension and studies,” he added.

The 40-foot container van, which was painted by artists from the Widus marketing department, will contain not only books but also computers.

Golimlim said the foundation will also be helping schools with existing libraries by refurbishing them. “It’s also one way of how we can make libraries be attractive and stimulate the passion for reading among the young pupils,” he said.“We want that to come out,” he added.

“So we as adults should encourage young students to read and tell them about the power of books,” Golimlim stressed.

The container van turned library costs at least P1.1 million, he said.

“We coordinated with the Department of Education and the school principal for the kind of books that the students will need which are mostly Filipino based books,” Golimlim said.
