Whale shark rescued in Zambales

    STA CRUZ, Zambales — Operatives of the 302nd Maritime Police Station headed by Inspector Leoncio P. Alcantara, Jr. rescued a whale shark stranded at the shore of Sitio Sabangan, Barangay Lipay of this town.

    Alcantara said a concerned citizen called their office informing them that a whale shark was found by resident at the shore of Sitio Sabangan.

    The police rescued and guarded the whale shark and reported their find to Lino Mejos, municipal fishery technician.

    The whale shark measured about two meters in length, weighed around 150 kilos.

    During examination the whale shark was found to have scratches and wounds in the body.

    Residents in the area appreciated the efforts of Maritime Police in preserving and protecting wild life.
