Week-long Bataan Day celebration starts

    BALANGA CITY – The weeklong Bataan Day celebration started on Wednesday with the opening of the Agri-Aqua Trade Fair at the Capitol grounds here.

    Various activities were lined up from April 3-9 that will culminate at the 71st Paggunitang Araw ng Kagitingan on top of Mt. Samat in Pilar town where Pres. Aquino will address a big crowd composed of World War II veterans and their spouses.

    An Aeta children’s chorale regaled the audience with Filipino songs of yesteryears. The wives of mayors, officers of the tourism council, wowed the crowd with their folk dance.

    On sale at the trade fair are products made and produced In 11 towns and one city in the province.

    Walis lasa, pillows, bags, dried and smoked fish, bagoong, araro cookies, kasuy nuts, vegetables, root crops, fruits and other delicacies are among the saleable items.

    Drum and lyre competition among elementary school pupils is scheduled for Thursday, Lakad Kabayanihan from the Dambana ng Kabayanihan to the Bataan People’s Center on Friday, cultural play on Saturday, parade of floats depicting World War II events and parade of people on Monday.
