CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Tons of expired frozen meat products valued at P35 million were seized by the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Customs in a raid on a warehouse in Meycauayan City on July 11.

“Several frozen spoiled meat products, including pork feet, lamb, and chicken skin, were found inside two makeshift cold storage facilities,” said the DA in a statement.
No one was arrested as there were no people inside the warehouse during the raid.

The spoiled frozen meat products reportedly came from Germany and India and already reeked at the time of the raid. Evidence of reboxing of the spoiled meat was also found at the site.

“The seized commodities lack the sanitary and phytosanitary clearance from the appropriate Food Safety Regulatory Agency,” DA Asst. Secretary James Layug

Layug said.

The storage warehouses would be shut down and its owners held accountable for trading smuggled agricultural commodities, he added.

Charges for violation of the Food Safety Act of 2013 and the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016 will be filed against those involved, the DA said. Punto News Team
