CUYAPO, Nueva Ecija – A village councilman found himself in deep trouble after allegedly selling illegal drugs to an undercover policeman in Barangay District 6 here on Friday.
Cuyapo police chief Lt. Col. Erwin Ferry identified the suspect as Sonny Agustin Balcorta, sangguniang barangay member of Barangay Bulala, also of this northwestern Nueva Ecija town.
In his report to Nueva Ecija police director Col. Jaime Santos, Ferry said the suspect was arrested after he yielded two sachets of shabu in a buy–bust operation conducted by their drug enforcement unit at around 12:30 a.m.
Being an elected official, Balcorta was tagged as a high value target and the operation was hatched after six days of surveillance, according to Ferry.
Charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act have been filed against Balcorta who is now detained at the police custodial facility here.
